California State Bird and Flower Color Version -WIP1

I'm starting to do a color version of my California State Bird and Flower line art drawing I shared in my previous post. This is the California quail and the golden poppy.

 I'm starting out just blocking in the basic colors of the bird here.

 The gray areas on the quail are actually quite bluish. The transition from blue-gray to brown is not this abrupt on the real bird but at this point I'm just blocking in the base colors. I'll make a more gradual transition as I start to add more detail, coming in a future post.

California State Bird & Flower Coloring Page Products

I've created another line art drawing of the state birds and flowers, this time for my home state of California. The official CA state bird is the quail, and the state flower is the golden poppy.

This is not the same version that will be in the Fox Chapel coloring book but it is, of course, the same bird and flowers. You can see the Fox Chapel version here.

For this newer version I won't have a coloring book page available (I don't want to compete with Fox Chapel!) but I will have other products available. Lots of things are popular to color these days because just sheets of paper. Try fabric pens, paints, or dyes on things like throw pillows and t-shirts. Shirts are becoming a popular new thing to color.

North Carolina State Bird and Flower Color Version

In my previous post I shared the coloring page version of my drawing of the North Carolina state bird and flower. For those of you who want to show your love for NC but don't want to color it in yourself, I also have a color version available.

I had a lot of fun doing the state birds and flowers coloring book for Fox Chapel publishing. So I decided to make some more variations that work on other products. Because the coloring book pages have to have a certain size and aspect ratio, and have a border, they don't work well on some other types of products. My new variations have the border removed, as well as some elements moved around the image, to better fit other items you might also find fun to color, like throw pillows and tote bags. I'm starting with North Carolina, whose state bird is the cardinal, and state flower the flowering dogwood. Here are some of the products you can color on.

State Birds and Flowers Coloring Pages

It's been a while since I posted because I've spent the last few months working on my 50 state birds and flowers coloring book. That's a lot of drawings! But I finally finished up all 50 states, and have even colored in a few. Here I have colored in Maryland's state bird and flower, the Baltimore Oriole and the Black-eyed Susan. Such a striking bird with its glowing orange against black, and the bright orange daisies are a perfect match.

You can see the black and white line art for all the coloring pages on my Art Licensing website pages. This coloring book is being published by Fox Chapel Publishing. I'm not sure when they plan on having this book on the market but I'm hoping they're planning on getting it out in time for the holiday shopping season this fall. Coloring books make great stocking stuffers!

Coloring Book of State Birds - California

It's been a while since I posted because I've been busy working away at my state birds and flowers coloring book. Twenty drawings done, 30 more to go! It's going to be tight to make my May deadline. But I thought I'd take a minute to share another image, this time of my home state of California, featuring the quail and the golden poppy.

I haven't posted in a while since I got side-tracked from my owl painting. I've been commissioned to do a coloring book of the 50 state birds and flowers. That's a lot of birds and flowers to draw so it's been keeping me busy! Here's a little preview featuring my state, WA, bird and flower, the goldfinch and rhododendron.
